After thirty one years here at 1511, we have bought a different house in Cedar Rapids. It is a sweet Cape Cod, lovingly refurbished over several years by a couple. Close in to town and work, nestled up against a protected woods. The real estate open house ad read, “Like a Christmas card.” and indeed it is. The house has been well cared for, updated, and has amenities such as outbuildings for storage and workshop space, a garage, easy stairs to get up and down, laundry for washer and dryer and ironing board! A settee in the south window, book cases for my books and Mom’s journals, is more spacious but is cozy feeling against storms.
We will make a few changes – freshening up some rooms with new paint, installing a powder room on the first floor and opening the kitchen to the dining area with a half wall, breakfast bar. Later will come the garden and natural landscaping.
Some things we will miss from 1511 are the garden beds that Rich developed over three decades with chicken manure and bunny droppings and oak leaves each fall; and the native plants we put in all around. So, we will begin anew. Updates as we go. So, far, lots of things here to sort, toss, pack. How did we acquire so much?
