Well, great progress is being made at 1080. What was once a beautifully left home is now…quite the mess. As I said to the students helping me the other day, “When you clean up, things get worse before they get better!” They laughed.
The contractor is preparing to install a 1/2 bath on the first floor. We have chosen flooring, paint, fixtures, appliances and the contractor has ripped out the walls, lifted back the carpet and cut a hole in the floor to put in plumbing, heat….
The work from the dining room and kitchen hit a snag with discovery of random pipes, which may be left over from another era. I wanted to remove the carpeting and refinish the wood floors. But, the original plan was too expensive and the person I contacted to help, backed out. Why can’t people just say a polite, “No thank you.” rather than the blah…blah…blah…? So, I went in myself and carefully pulled out the quarter round and baseboard and pulled up the carpet. I who know little, had simple tools and don’t have lots of strength did pretty well. The reward is wonderful! The oak floor has a charming pattern and naturally I discovered all the dirt that had settled through the carpet and the mat to the floor. Sneeze! Now, do I want to tackle the living room, too, while all the mess is here?
