In this “so far no winter” winter, the chickadees have begun their spring call. The sun sets later and there is ambient light in the western sky until 5:15 p.m. Still a 7:35 a.m. sunrise but seems to lighten up more quickly. Mild again and the bunnies enjoy a run and sitting in the sun.

Hi,
I don’t know about Chickadees but the birds are quick to respond to the seasonal changes over here in the UK. I run a phenology blog which tracks the slight differences in behaviour of the wildlife over the course of the year and many to come.
Good post.
Best Wishes

Thanks, Tom. We are oh so mild here in Iowa. How about the UK?
Hi Marion,
It’s Tony and yes, we are unseasonably mild with only 3 air frosts all winter so far and the mean for January is running at 3.6c above normal. This data is taken from my weather station and is correlated to official figures. However, the weather guys on the forums here in the UK appear to be suggesting a cooldown for us into the second part of January. Nature needs some normality so let’s hope it arrives.
Kind Regards
Tony Powell
We just “got” winter. About time.
