Dan honored

Dan and Rich met in the Black Hills this past weekend (September 18-20) for the celebration of the Quasquicentennial of BHSU, Dan’s alma mater. BHSU honored 125 notable alumni and Dan was one of them. Only two from the 21st Century! About 60 of the alumni attended for Home Coming. Rich, on talking with the University President, Kay Schallenkamp, learned that part of the motivation to hold this event was to help students, alumni, supporters realize that from BHSU, graduates go to far flung places and accomplish many positive things in life. Dan has great supporters in several faculty who admired his drive and willingness to risk, fall on his face, pick himself up and keep going. Among these advocates is Dave Diamond.

The weather was near perfect, the event fun and lively, Rich visited with City officials and interested volunteers about opportunities at the DC Booth Fish Hatchery, hiked in the Badlands and Black Hills, and took in the events. Thanks to Ellen Ratner, Dan’s current boss, for saying this is a “must event.” Go to this link for the write up that was in the Black Hills Pioneer Newspaper that Dan wrote for at one time. http://www.bhpioneer.com/articles/2008/09/19/news/northern_hills/doc48d437ec0391d981111546.txt or to Dan’s Flickr account at http://www.flickr.com/photos/creepysleepy/2879201792/

He certainly has worked hard and the recognition is well-deserved. Very cool beans.
